Through its environmental protection measures, Barrière is committed to preserving biodiversity. Several beehives have therefore flourished on the roofs of its establishments, providing many different varieties of local honey.
Bees – the treasured queens of Barrière establishments
By encouraging pollination, bees have been responsible for balancing numerous ecosystems for almost 100 million years. Given their essential role in biodiversity and the future of mankind, Barrière is playing an active part in the protection of the insects. From Cannes to Dinard, La Baule, Paris, Enghien-les-Bains and Ribeauvillé, Barrière establishments are home to a total of 76 beehives. While normally installed on rooftops, at the Barrière Golf Courses in Deauville and La Baule the hives enjoy a special area on the very edge of the courses.
Honey: a precious nectar with a thousand uses
Professional beekeepers look after the hives, and part of the honey that they produce is given back to the host establishment. Given as a gift to customers, employees or put up for sale – like in Nice to finance new beehives or in Menton to raise money for charity – Barrière honey offers a world of different uses and flavours. Proof of this came in the form of the bronze metal won in 2015 by the nectar produced by Hôtel Barrière Le Fouquet’s Paris at the Île-de-France Honey Competition. Finally, Toulouse's "Table Barrière" gives this local sweet treat pride of place in its recipes, much to the delight of food lovers.
